Interpol, in collaboration with cybersecurity firms such as Group-IB, Trend Micro, Kaspersky, and Team Cymru, has successfully dismantled a vast cybercrime network through Operation Synergia II. Initiated in April, this operation targeted malicious infrastructures involved in phishing, information theft, and ransomware attacks.
Key Achievements:
- Disruption of Malicious Infrastructure: Authorities identified 30,000 malicious IP addresses, successfully taking down 22,000 of them, along with 59 servers.
- Arrests and Investigations: The operation led to the arrest of 41 individuals, with 65 additional suspects currently under investigation.
- Global Collaboration: Law enforcement agencies across multiple countries participated actively:
- Hong Kong: Dismantled 1,037 servers.
- Mongolia: Conducted 21 house searches, identifying 93 individuals linked to cybercrimes.
- Macau: Took 291 servers offline.
- Madagascar: Tracked down 11 individuals associated with the servers and seized multiple devices.
- Estonia: Confiscated over 80GB of server data, currently under analysis.
Neal Jetton, Interpol’s Director of the Cybercrime Directorate, emphasized the importance of global cooperation in combating cybercrime, stating that such collaborative efforts are crucial in dismantling malicious infrastructures and preventing potential victimization.
